Reading Response #6

"Escaping Paradise" made me think of the political situation in my country! After I read to chapter 51, I could see the connection from the book and myself again. Some of the freedom fighters in Indonesian was caught after their car was smashed into the tree in the city. These freedom fighters didn't resist the arrest but they didn't concede of Nicki's kidnapping. They didn't give any information or tell where Nicki was. Also, people in Indonesian started to recognize this group as political prevention. People in the country became broken in two sides which were freedom fighter side and government side.
This situation exactly reminds me of the political situation in Thailand right now. After Chamlong Srimuang, one of the leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy, was arrested last weekend, some of the people who attend in the protest and don't like this government which is a nominee of Thaksin Shinawatra walked to a parliament and wanted to stop the conference. But, they were stopped by tons of polices who used a tear gas to disintegrate these people. It was a massive, dangerous situation. One innocent people died because of the explosion of a jeep near the disintegrated scene. Also, one person had lost his leg. This encounter led a lot of lost and a bad image of Thailand. Now, most Thai people only ask or think what side they are in. They don't consider first that we all are Thai. We live on the same land and have the same king.
From my view, one person who caused the separation of Thai people is Thaksin Shinawatra. If he didn't corrupt or buy a lot of countryside people's voice, I'm sure that the situation would be better than this. People would agree to each other and rely on the same rules. I only hope that this situation is going to be a happy ending which brings Thailand as ONE!

I can certainly see what led to the connection you made between the stories. Your commentary reminds me of the power of the words we use. We use "freedom fighter" to describe the people who fight on our side and "terrorist" to describe the people on the other side. Ultimately, the labels we use divide us too. I too hope that Thailand is able to overcome this divisiveness.

I know that news! I read that in news web site. thai land's protest is getting more agressive I think.

I feel so upset about it because it's going to make my exam more difficult.

you know what? I have a interview as a part of exam to enter my university and they always ask about student's opinion for political problem.

So they will ask me about this protest for sure but I don't really understand what's going on there!
